Fortnite FPS boost: the best PC settings

Updated 2026-10-20 · Auf Deutsch lesen

Fortnite runs on almost any PC, but the default settings waste a lot of performance. These settings give you more FPS and steadier frame times without making enemies harder to see.

1. Pick the right rendering mode

Settings → Video → Rendering Mode. You have three options:

  • Performance: the highest FPS on weak or older PCs and laptops. Simpler graphics, but enemies are easy to see. Most competitive players use it.
  • DirectX 12: best on modern graphics cards (RTX, RX 6000 and newer). Needed for DLSS, TSR and the better effects.
  • DirectX 11: only if DirectX 12 stutters on your PC.

Restart Fortnite after changing the rendering mode. The first matches in DirectX 12 can stutter while shaders are built, that goes away.

2. Graphics settings for high FPS

3. Turn on NVIDIA Reflex

Under Video → NVIDIA Reflex Low Latency pick On + Boost if you have an NVIDIA card. It lowers the delay between your click and the shot on screen. AMD users can turn on Anti-Lag in the AMD Software.

4. Windows settings that help Fortnite

  • Set your monitor to its full refresh rate: Windows Settings → Display → Advanced display → Refresh rate.
  • Turn on Game Mode and Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling (Settings → Gaming / Display → Graphics).
  • Update your graphics driver.
  • Close browsers, launchers and recording tools you don't need while you play.

Do it in one click with EMP Tweaks

EMP Tweaks writes these Fortnite settings into the game's config file for you (pick Low, Medium, High or Auto on the Games screen), applies the Windows, network and GPU tweaks above, and measures your real FPS before and after. Everything can be undone with one button, and EMP never touches the game itself while it runs.

Questions

Is it safe to change Fortnite's config file?

Yes. It is the same file the in-game settings menu writes. EMP only edits it while Fortnite is closed and keeps a backup.

Performance mode or DirectX 12?

Performance mode on weak PCs and laptops, DirectX 12 on modern graphics cards. Try both and keep the one with steadier FPS.
